Membership in Voce Pura
Each Voce Pura singer is expected to be capable of self learning their music part including notes and timings, prior to rehearsing the music with the Voce Pura chorale. By doing so, rehearsals will primarily focus on musical expression, annunciation, intonation and pure tone technique leading to great enjoyment. Music to be rehearsed will be posted to the Members section of the vocepura.org website for download with ample time prior to rehearsals, so that singers will have adequate time to review their specific part. If an individual singer finds that a piece of music is particularly challenging, the director (or as we become more mature, a section lead) can assist the singer outside of the rehearsal.
If you submit a member application and are accepted as a member of Voce Pura you are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of the rehearsals and 100% of performances. Each singer is required to furnish their own transportation to and from rehearsals and performances. Performance dates will be known well in advance. Rehearsals are planned for Tuesday evenings at the fellowship hall of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, located at 5108 Kuykendall Rd, Charlotte and will last for two hours maximum including warm ups and breaks with refreshments. We anticipate beginning weekly rehearsals in late September 2025 depending on the mix of voices and voice who are accepted as Voce Pura Members.
The modest cost of an annual membership in Voce Pura is $50 per year per member to cover incidental expenses. Additionally, there may be occasions where a music selection we choose to perform is restricted by copyright. In those cases each singer will be required to purchase their own copy of the music, at the same price as our cost.

What does the application process involve?
By filling out and submitting your application, we get an idea of your musical experience and what excites you as a choral singer. We aren’t overly concerned if you cannot check the highest level in each musical skill on the application, but we want to understand your levels of musical knowledge and vocal experience. Once we receive your application, we may contact you to discuss your skills and singing goals. We will also hold some socials where you can meet the director and ask questions.
What level of singing skill do I need?

How large will Voce Pura be?
Ideally we will have at least two voices per part plus two Octavists. Our size will depend on the number of applicants who are accepted for membership.
What kinds of voices are you seeking for Voce Pura?
Since we will be performing a cappella music typically with 4-8 parts, we are seeking Soprano 1&2, Alto 1&2, Tenor 1&2 and Bass 1&2 plus Bass Octavists.
What are rehearsal details?
Rehearsals will be held once weekly on Tuesday nights at the community center of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte, located conveniently near I-485 and the Providence Road exit. Each rehearsal will be two hours or less, consisting of voice warm up exercises followed by rehearsal of various music in different stages. There will be a break half way through the rehearsal with refreshments and time to chat.
What languages will be sung?
The vast majority of our music will be performed in English. If a selection is performed in another language, members will be provided the text in English “phonetics”.
